The honeycomb calcite stone came from the mountains 125 miles east of Salt Lake City. The calcite is formed from the stalactites and stalagmites of a cave that was buried for millions of years before being uplifted. In addition to the glow and color, this stone rang and all throughout its shaping has continued to ring. It has integrity.
This piece is meant to remind us that our communities arise from their surroundings to provide basic human needs, foundations of well being, and opportunity so its members can flourish. This form represents the social fabric, woven as one surface (a möbius), a community that provides the structure and systems we all rely on.
